Steamy Summerby Lee Weeks - 08:18 on 08 August 2009
Hi. Am busy working on book 4 – which I have provisionally called Death Kiss – as I guess it’s about sex and betrayal and vulnerability. As I said, I spent so long watching the lonely businessmen in Hong Kong – turning into giggling girls when the sex workers turned up, that it gave me ideas for this next book. Had a mini disappointment – was set to go on woman’s hour but was contacted pre show by a lady named Rebecca. I was expecting to talk about my new book but instead I was asked about my time as a hostess. It seems I was there to back up another woman’s book about Lucy, the murdered hostess in Japan. Not only was she more interested in me dishing the dirt on my life than anything else she thought I had lived in Tokyo and not Hong Kong. It astounds me that three books on and two bestsellers the most important thing I seem to have done in my life is be a hostess! I told her I could talk about the triad connections between the countries and the fact that they own the nightclubs where women like me and Lucy worked and that I was sold to Chinese triads and Lucy was killed by a Japanese triad and they often work together. But she thought it would take too long to explain to the listeners. Actually what really astounds me is that Rebecca can get away with doing absolutely nil research – she knew nothing about my life or my books. So, in the end, she came back to say that as Hong Kong and Tokyo were worlds apart and so utterly different (research Rebecca!!!) that my contribution wasn’t needed... thanks but no thanks. On a really great note I had such a fab time at Harrogate. It was so lovely to meet so many authors who are a hard drinking, very funny, charming bunch and lots of the men are really tall and good looking!! It felt great to be amongst people who live the same weird life isolated in their office every day – and boy did it show that we don’t get out much!! I met Lee Child for the first time which was lovely as we share the same agent. He was every bit as charming and amenable as people said he would be. He stayed around and socialized for the whole conference which, considering the star usually runs in five minutes before they’re due on stage and scurries off after the signing, was really great. I know I keep saying it but am so excited about Death Trip coming out. It will hit the shops on the 20th, so not long now. Have just downloaded my photos from my recent trip to Hong Kong so will get those up asap. Hope you’re managing to dry out between the showers. Comment from Toro Omoyele at 11:49 on 25 August 2009. Yeah, I myself have finished reading Death Trip, and honestly, I'm extremely impressed with it. I adore your style of writing, your book seemed to rival with one of J.K.Rowlins' works. Keep up the great work, and with no doubt, you could impress many, many other.Comment from Saigonlilly at 12:33 on 12 October 2009.
